Representatives of SGC Computer Forensics, LLC spent three weeks in Pascagoula Mississippi assisting local churches, businesses
and individuals to recover data from computers damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
The estimated 22 foot storm surge created by Hurricane Katrina flooded most of the city of Pascagoula. Once the storm surge receded many
of the homes and businesses from US 90 south to Beach Boulevard were either completely destroyed or left with scattered furniture, wet carpet,
and soggy personal possessions.
Ingalls Avenue Baptist Church allowed SGC to setup a data recovery workstation where people could bring in their computers and have them looked at.
SGC offered data recovery services free of charge to anyone who brought in their computers. SGC was able to successfully recover
data from 70% of the computers it received.
Representatives from SGC said this had been the most challenging data recovery efforts they had ever done. Most of the computer
had been either partially or completely covered by storm surge waters and corrosion had already started to take it's toll on the
computer. Several of the computers had to have the cases pried off because they had either rusted or corroded shut.
Members of SGC said they felt blessed by being able to give a little something back to the people of Pascagoula when they have lost so much.
